my other flowering plants

Been very busy these past few weeks, I wasn't able to update my blog.

Aside from orchids, I have other flowering plants in my little garden like euphorbias and cosmos. At first, I don't really like to plant euphorbias because they are thorny but my sister gave me few pots and she said I might as well try growing them. And here they are now, giving me lovely flowers....

lovely vandas

A friend sent me this picture of lovely vandas from one of the farms in Thailand.
I heard they have really big and nice orchid farms there. And they continuously develop new varieties in their laboratory. Parang gusto ko tuloy makarating ng Thailand. Parang masarap mamasyal sa kanilang orchid farms. Siguro ay hindi ko mapipigilang bumili dun.

vanda kamolphan red pink

One of the few vanda I bought who have tag or name of the variety. This is the first time it produced flowers. Lovely flowers in deep fuschia....I have no idea on the apperance of this one when I bought it 'coz I didn't see one with flowers by this variety on the stall, so I'm really happy when I saw it finally bloom. (Maganda pala siya, sulit ang paghihintay ko...Kaya lang, di macapture ang kulay sa camera, maputla ang flowers sa picture pero sa totoo, matingkad ang kulay nito)

Good effects

Though the rain cause my orchids to have fungi and pests sometimes(pests love to stay on wet orchid leaves), it also has many good effects. The roots became fresh and plenty of new roots are sprouting, and many of them are flowering these days without the need of blooming fertilizer.

dendrobium

One of the orchid variety that's easy to take care of(as far as i'm concerned) is the dendrobium. You can hang it in pots(with coconut husks or charcoal) or simply attach it on a tree trunk, preferably trees with rough bark like caimito.

at last...

I've been waiting for some of my orchid plants to produce flowers for so long(I think more than a year already) so I'm very happy when I saw three of them with spikes. I almost forgot I have this variety with me(light yellow and maroon) until the buds finally opened.

rainy days

During rainy days, orchids are very sensitive. While the rain is important to all plants because of the nutrients it gives, too much raining is not very good for orchids as far as my observation in my plants is concerned. Their leaves tend to become yellow and eventually wither and black spots appear sometimes in their leaves because of fungus. Pests are abundant during this time also because the leaves are always wet. Pests like aphids, milliphids and small bugs tend to enjoy living in damp leaves of orchids plant. They eat the roots of the orchids, so, if you will not notice it at once, the plant will surely wither and die.

wished I could buy them all

Me and my friend Vangie visiting an orchid store in Quezon City. The flowers are so lovely, how I wished I could buy them all. But I'm not rich so they are only wishes, he,he,he. They are not very reasonably priced either so I have to be contented with just buying two pots for the varieties I still don't have in my collection.

garden visit

While in Tagaytay, we passed by Ming's Garden. They do not sell orchids there but the flowers in their greenhouse are worth seeing...they are indeed lovely. They have unique comfort rooms also. There are plants even inside the comfort rooms.

farm visit in tagaytay

I'm with my friends in Gintong Talulot Orchid Farm. We didn't have the chance to buy orchids there because whenever we ask for the price of the plants we want to buy, the caretaker tells us what we chose are not for sale.

another yellow vanda

This vanda produces average sized flowers that lasts for a month. The petals have tiny brown spots that complement the yellow color.

orchid store

With my good friend Vangie again in an orchid store in Quezon City. They sell nice flowers there but their prices are not reasonable. Hindi ako bumili dito, sobrang mahal naman kasi e, napasimangot tuloy ako sa picture...

farm

Amidst thousands of vanda... The weather is really hot but I enjoyed my farm visit nevertheless.

red vanda

I also bought this one from a farm in San Rafael, Bulacan. The flowers are not that big but the velvety petals are in deep red color.

my cattleya

I bought this cattleya from a farm in San Rafael, Bulacan. It has big flowers and the fragrance is really nice especially at night. But I think I'm not lucky tending cattleya because after a month, it withered. I wish I can find a way to take better care of this orchid variety...

yellow cattleya

I saw this plain yellow cattleya in an orchid farm in San Rafael, Bulacan. The flowers are so big and so fragrant. Unfortunately, the owner didn't sell it 'coz he will join an orchid competition and the yellow cattleya is one of his entry.

vanda fusch delight pink

Big petals and nice color, I can't resist buying this vanda when I saw it in one of the orchid show at Manila Seedling Bank, Quezon City....

my orchids....

when i was starting my passion for growing orchids i used to buy Dendrobium... then eventually when my husband and i transferred to our own house i shitted to Vanda....

here's one of what i am growing....

my past time..... growing orchids

ever since i was a young girl i have always been fascinated with the beauty and mystery that surrounds these lovely flowers..... they look very beautiful and they they last for a very long time....

when i got married while waiting to have our first born my husband and i have decided to grow orchids of our own... we have isolated a small portion of the yard and started with 3 small pots of orchids and tend them...

as months pass by, every salary day we tried to add a few more variety.....
